Roding Valley Playground, UK
A haven of inclusive and imaginative play
The playground's design is an ode to its natural environment, emulating the charm of Roding Valley's woodlands. It carefully zones spaces by age groups without necessitating specific surfacing or pathways, allowing children to intuitively navigate between play areas. The playground invites children into a realm of storytelling and role-playing, offering an immersive experience. The centerpiece, a viper rope swing, serves as a thrilling attraction that sparks adventurous tales.
The design harmonizes with the natural surroundings, featuring a wood-inspired aesthetic punctuated with vibrant, earth-toned play structures. This deliberate choice allows the playground to evolve with the seasonal shifts in the landscape.
Inclusive elements include:
- A multi-person inclusive Mirage seesaw promotes inclusivity, ensuring all children can join in the fun.
- A three-tower structure designed for children up to 14 provides a range of challenges, including a rope bridge, net climber, and double-wide inclusive slide.
- A toddler-oriented two-tower structure caters to younger children (up to age 5), with game panels, a ship's wheel, a shop panel, and multiple levels.
- Multiple swings, including accessible options, offer a variety of swinging experiences.
- Accessible play panels encourage diverse games and role-playing opportunities.
