      Play for All in Action

At HAGS, our unwavering commitment is to provide play opportunities to as many children as possible on our products. Inclusion is ingrained in our company DNA, driving us to inspire inclusive play for all. We believe that playgrounds should engage children of diverse ages and abilities, fostering interaction among them. Our approach integrates the Play Pyramid into every product design and play space we create. Additionally, we empower our customers—whether buyers, designers, or specifiers—to enhance their play spaces through our digital tools and advanced website search capabilities.

Our play products are designed with the user in mind. We conduct play tests during development to ensure that the play experiences are authentic and that each child gains maximum benefit from using them.

Here is an examples on how Play for All philosophy has been applied to our playground products, Inclusive Springers Tini and Snappy.

      Inclusive Springers Tini & Snappy

The inclusive springers Tini and Snappy are equipped with high backrests that provide head support and can accommodate 5 point harness belts for additional support. The placement of the handles makes it easier for adults to assist children in getting on and off the springers. Adults can also use the handles to help children gain momentum and encourage them while playing, fostering interaction and fun in a shared play environment.

Helen Bergander, a coordinator for inclusion and design engineer at Customer Special, introduces the new inclusive springers. These springers are designed to enable more children, regardless of their abilities, to play together. Helen emphasizes the importance of inclusive play in developing social, emotional, and motor skills for all children, including those with impairments.

In the end, the children are the experts, not us!

In this video, we hear from Disa Danevad, Innovation and Design Manager at HAGS, as she shares the journey behind the creation of these inclusive springers. Disa will walk us through the design process, which was driven by a commitment to inclusivity and the goal of making play accessible to all children, regardless of ability.

She’ll explain how her team responded to requests for more supportive play equipment by designing springers with high backrests and harness options. Disa also highlights the importance of real world testing, detailing how feedback from children, teachers, and safety experts shaped the final product. The video offers an inside look at how these thoughtful designs came to life and the emphasis HAGS places on ensuring that every child feels included and excited to play.

Playtesting at Bräcke Preschool Stegen, Sweden

Marie Wiese Bruus, Assistant Principal at Bräcke Preschool Stegen, shares her insights after testing the new inclusive springer with her students. Marie highlights the positive feedback from the children, emphasizing how much they enjoyed using the springer. She discusses the benefits of the design, particularly its high backrest and secure fastening system, which allow children to sit and rock independently. Marie concludes by recommending the springer not only for public playgrounds but also for preschools and special preschools, where its inclusive design can benefit a wide range of children.

Play for All will become prescriptive for all Play Spaces

Inclusive products and playground designs are now standard in the industry, but the focus on play value and child development has diminished. At HAGS, with a strong legacy in child development, we have created the 'Play Pyramid' to optimize the balance and quality of play value in playground designs. We plan to promote this innovation through our digital marketing efforts and, once established, advocate for its inclusion in tenders and all play area specifications.
